Lugar à Dança – International Festival in Urban Landscapes is an annual international festival, unique both in its genre and in national culture’s context. It promotes contemporary dance and other performative arts in specific locations, programmed for a concrete architecture in public spaces. Lugar à Dança is an open door festival, open to all types of audience, and that believes in the contemporary trends of artists, creators and national and international interpreters.

 

Lugar à Dança wants to humanize the cities, revalue the artistic and architectonical heritage, enhance dance in its every aspect and promote the exchange between cities.

 

15 years > 1998 - 2002 > 14 cities > 125.000 spectators
Lisboa, Coimbra, Sertã, Barcelos, Figueira da Foz, Oeiras, Cascais, Fundão, Silves, Aveiro, Porto, Faro, Moita, Penela.

 

Lugar à Dança is a member of the International Network of Dancing Cities, of which 38 cities in 18 countries are a part.

 

 

Goals
-  To assume a role in the valorization and preservation of the architectonical heritage of cities and associated spaces, giving them an important  job of cultural and artistic promotion;
- To raise the audience’s awareness through the contemporary languages of dance, recreating close bonds with local communities through training courses, workshops and seminars;
- To explore each territory’s past and contemporaneity, through contemporary dance and other forms of artistic intervention, stimulating the reflection on the role of art in the public space.
